Procuring Accessible Technology
Any type of technology that is purchased should be accessible to all students and staff, including those with disabilities. Make it a practice when purchasing to ask companies about the accessibility of their products. It is also important to check on the accessibility of all current software that is owned and if the product is not accessible, ask the vendor what their plan is to make it accessible and by what date.
When purchasing or bidding on new products, include accessibility assurances within the contract for bidders. Vendors should be able to produce a Voluntary Accessibility Template (VPAT). The VPAT is a document that highlights service conformance with relevant accessibility standards and guidelines.
