Prepare for Tier 3 Intervention

1. Get to know the tier 3 intervention cycle.

  • Watch the Tier 2 Intervention Cycle support video to preview the original 8-day intervention cycle.
    • Tier 3 intervention resources do not include the re-engagement session.
    • Tier 3 intervention provides extended time during each stage of the C-R-A instructional sequence.
  • Read the sample teacher prompts that can be heard throughout each session.
  • Read the observation checklist that can be seen throughout each session.
  • Scan the Tier 3 support guide that provides the instructional plan for each session.

2. Print the Teacher Packet for the standard from the Tier 3 Intervention tab.

  • Identify the learning target and success criteria.

3. Become confident with the Concrete-Representational-Abstract instructional sequence (C-R-A).

  • Explore Session 1 (Build), 3 (Draw) and 6 (Write).
    • Watch the modeling video.
    • Read the suggested script, teacher notes, and visual support that supports productive math talk.
    • Practice a think-aloud for at least two Guided Practice problems.
    • Anticipate questions students might ask.

4. Review the Concrete-Representational-Abstract instructional sequence (C-R-A).

5. Print the Student Packet and gather manipulatives that may include mats, modeling and guided practice cards, or other types of tools included in the Teacher Packet.
