Business & Community Partners

• Students must follow state and federal youth employment laws
  • Michigan requires minors to obtain a work permit signed by the school before they are permitted to work
    • Students cannot work during the school day unless they are released by a school training agreement (often referred to as co-op) or have an asycronous schedule document on file
  • Students under 18 may not work in a Hazardous Occupation unless they are a student learner in a state-approved CTE program, and their job duties must comply with state and federal youth employment regulations
    • The stricter law of state or federal law always applies (source)
    • CTE student learner exemptions are marked with an * for students who are currently enrolled in a CTE program and meet qualifying curriculum standards (ages 16+)
• Employers complete a training agreement and provide mentorship to extend their learning (these are district dependant, view example template PDF)
