Career and Technical Education
Our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs serve students from kindergarten through grade 13 across the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District (OAISD). These programs are available to students attending traditional public schools, public school academies, faith-based schools, or homeschool settings. Additionally, we offer specialized CTE programs for adult learners seeking to enhance their skills, advance in their careers, or transition into new industries.
CTE programs provide students with valuable real-world learning experiences by integrating hands-on training with academic instruction. Through these programs, students develop critical workplace skills, explore potential career pathways, and gain exposure to emerging technologies and industry trends. By engaging in CTE coursework, students can earn industry-recognized certifications, college credits, and work-based learning experiences that prepare them for both higher education and the workforce.

K-13 CTE equips students from kindergarten through high school with essential skills for a wide range of career opportunities. This system provides a pathway for students to explore, develop, and gain hands-on experience in various industries while still in school.
Ottawa Area ISD provides essential support to local districts in enhancing and expanding their CTE programs. By offering guidance and resources, we help districts create high-quality career preparation opportunities that equip students with the skills they need to succeed in the workforce or continue their education.
Post-secondary technical education and training programs provide individuals with the advanced skills needed to excel in specialized careers. These programs are typically offered by community colleges, vocational schools, and technical institutes, preparing students for a wide variety of in-demand occupations.
CTE Expansion to Meet Growing Demand
We are excited to share our ambitious plans to expand CTE offerings, catering to the increasing demand from students, parents and employers throughout the Ottawa region. This expansion aligns with our district’s strategic plan goal of providing multiple pathways for student success, broadening opportunities, and eliminating barriers and opportunity gaps to ensure that every student achieves their full potential.
Our CTE programming aims to empower students by offering them diverse career pathways, practical experience, and essential skills needed for success in the modern workforce.
The demand for Careerline Tech Center programming has grown steadily over the years, resulting in a significant waitlist for 11th and 12th-grade students. Additionally, local schools are looking for ways to offer CTE opportunities on their own campuses, and therefore, Ottawa Area ISD is implementing several initiatives to help address the growing demand.
