Cyber Security Operations Center (CSOC)

William Kelly has spent most of his life in West Michigan and has been with the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District since 2016. During his time at OAISD, he has served in a variety of technical roles before moving into information security, where he now serves as the Cybersecurity Operations Center (CSOC) Manager.

William’s interest in cybersecurity grew following a ransomware incident in 2019, when he became increasingly involved in strengthening the organization’s security program and incident response capabilities. What began as a small part of his responsibilities gradually evolved into his primary focus, culminating in a full-time cybersecurity role in late 2024. He holds the CompTIA Network+, Security+, CySA+, and SecurityX certifications.

Outside of work, William enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, who attend an elementary school supported by the OAISD Cybersecurity Operations Center. As both a cybersecurity professional and a parent, he has a personal appreciation for the importance of protecting the technology that students, educators, and school communities rely on every day.

Brandon Romanek is a Cybersecurity Analyst with the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District’s Cybersecurity Operations Center (CSOC). He graduated from Ferris State University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management and an Associate’s in Health Information Technology. He began his IT work in 2019 with a 9 month contract at Spectrum Health before securing a full-time Help Desk position at a corporate office for a national PT company where he worked his way up to System Administrator over the course of 5 years. He has been interested in computers and technology for as long as he can remember and continues to find enjoyment in the field as it is ever-changing and evolving with an abundance of things to learn.

Chris grew up in Whitehall, MI, and graduated from GVSU with a degree in German. He has since worked in Austria and England before coming back to Michigan and working as a classroom assistant at OAC. From there, he went out and worked his way into the technology field before returning to OAISD to be a part of the Help Desk, later the Network Operations Team, and now the OA CSOC.

Chris spends pretty much all of his free time with his two young children. At this point in time, he can’t remember what it is like to have hobbies, but plans to one day have his own interests and hobbies again.

Natalie Gannon is a Cybersecurity Analyst with the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District’s Cyber Security Operations Center (CSOC). She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Grand Valley State University and earned her CompTIA Security+ certification after joining OAISD in 2024. Natalie began her career at OAISD on the Help Desk, where she supported users across the region and assisted with cybersecurity investigations and incident response efforts before the formation of the CSOC. Prior to joining OAISD, she worked as a ballet instructor and office manager, developing strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Her diverse professional background, combined with a longstanding aptitude for technology, helps her bridge the gap between technical security challenges and the people affected by them.

Samuel Cavada joined the military in 2017 and started his career as an avionics technician working on F-16 fighter jet systems and test stations. While working on test stations, he maintained and troubleshot computer-based systems, which helped grow his interest in IT. He now continues to build his experience in cybersecurity and technical support, has earned his associate degree in Cybersecurity from Grand Rapids Community College, and is working toward his bachelor’s degree in Cyber Defense at Davenport University. In his free time, he enjoys playing sports, working on IT projects at home, exploring new places with his wife, and spending time with their cat, Miso.
