Kyle Mayer

Dr. Kyle Mayer is a lifelong educator committed to advancing student success and community impact through his leadership at OAISD. He joined OAISD in August 2008 as Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services. Prior to OAISD, Kyle worked as a fifth-grade teacher, elementary principal, and local district superintendent. He has always been driven by a passion for making a positive difference in the lives of students, families, and communities.

Kyle earned his Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University and a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University. He is a twice-appointed former member of the Governor’s PreK-12 Literacy Commission and currently serves on the Executive Board of:

  • Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators (MAISA)
  • Ed & Nancy Hanenburg Children’s Advocacy Center in Holland
  • Talent Together, Michigan’s largest “Grow Your Own” educator program

He is also a past executive board member of the West Coast Chamber of Commerce.

Outside of his professional roles, Kyle brings the same passion for growth and community to his family and personal pursuits. He has been married to Melissa for over 25 years; they met in an education class at Michigan State University. Melissa teaches fifth grade. They have two children, Sarah and Ryan, and a French Bulldog, Lola. Kyle enjoys traveling—especially visiting America’s National Parks—riding mountain bikes, and cheering on the Michigan State Spartans.
