The Ottawa Area Center (OAC) is a public school serving the unique educational needs of students with cognitive impairments. We serve approximately 304 students throughout the Ottawa area. Our mission is to be a leader in providing individualized special education services which maximize our students' quality of life.
We have a versatile staff of approximately 145 dedicated teachers, paraprofessionals, nurses, therapists, consultants, and support staff. Our staff is committed to providing students with creative academic, vocational, and social experiences that develop the child holistically, promoting success in family and community life. In addition to classroom activites, OAC offers a variety of unique programs and support activities to help every student reach his or her full potential.
We service students who reside in the following local school districts: Allendale, Coopersville, Grand Haven, Hamilton, Holland, Hudsonville, Jenison, Saugatuck, Spring Lake, West Ottawa and Zeeland.
Most of our students are eligible for special education under the categories of Moderate Cognitive Impairment (MOCI), Severe Cognitive Impairment (SCI), Severely Multiply Impaired (SXI), or Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
